Lake District Triathlon at Coniston - 06/09/2009
The Lake District is one of the most scenic areas in Great Britain and a magical place to hold a triathlon. There is now a new triathlon event that takes place around the world famous Lake Coniston. Make this a complete weekend event to visit with family or friends. For those competing the swim is in the actual lake and the bike and run courses take you through beautiful lakeside scenery. This triathlon event is suitable for both beginners and experienced triathletes.

Lake Coniston became world famous in 1955 when Donald Campbell broke the world speed record on the lake. Iconic images of the lake were created when he was tragically killed in 1967 trying to regain the world record. His record breaking boat Bluebird wasn’t recovered until 2001 and this year a new museum exhibiting the restored boat opened.

My Triathlon ,organisers of the highly successful Tatton Park Triathlon, have created the newest triathlon in the beautiful Lake District. My Triathlon has a reputation for encouraging people wishing to complete their first triathlon. For this reason two distances are offered at the Lake District Triathlon, a Sprint distance (swim 750m; bike 20k; run 5k) and an Olympic distance (swim 1500m; bike 40k, run 10k).
